![]() ![]() ![]() Create a new sketch again on the Front Plane and use the Rectangle tool again, when drawing this Rectangle make sure you draw it inside of the previous. This rectangle should be 24cm in length and 20cm in height. The gun boxes are very simple, especially compared to the rest of the turret, start by starting a new sketch on the Front Plane and use the Rectangle tool. I will also be going over how to use basic Rendering tools with SolidWorks 2011, but the process is similar for previous versions. The gunboxes are really simple, but I will introduce you to a new method we haven’t used yet, the Fillet tool. In this week I will be going over making the gunboxes for the turret. Good luck finding the materials and we shall begin construction next week! As always comment and follow this build on Twitter for more updates. Getting these next steps right makes the rest of your life so much easier. Next week I will begin instructions on building the most crucial part of this build, the egg. The following are the tools I found most helpful for cutting out the pieces and sanding down the egg: Now print off each slice that you need and cut them out. You will find very quickly that the only way to do this on a conventional printer with letter size paper is to make quarter ellipses. Finally open an image editing and use an ellipse to with the inches setting to make outlines of each slice. Now, cut side to side numbers in half so that you can make the egg in halves. I did all my slices in 2 inch slices but it conveys the idea: Now in the section view options set the distance to 2in, since we know the sizes at 0 distance from the centre. Now create a new sketch on the top plane and draw 2 Centre Lines from the middle to the edge of the circle, one to the side and one to the front. Now we are going to use the Section View tool, sits right next to the Perspective Tool and make sure that it’s oriented around the Top Plane. To access the Rollback feature look at the sidebar and you will see a small blue line at the bottom of all of the different cuts and extrudes you did on the egg and drag that line up to above where the wing cuts began. What we are going to do is open the body piece in SolidWorks and use the Rollback feature to go back to the egg. So it is time to use that digital model we spent so much time on. This stuff will be either your friend or your greatest annoyance, depending on the amount of care you give to letting it set. ![]() The 1 and 2 inch thickness boards will be used for building up the main layers of the egg while the 1/2 inch will be used as the centre board and to top off the egg should you run out of foam. You will know when you have the right stuff because it has the Pink Panther on it. These foam sheets are meant for insulating an attic and come in sheets that are 2 feet wide and 8′ long. This week I will go over the things you will need to buy for the next few posts which will cover the building of the initial egg as well as the tools and other items you will need to transfer the digital measurements to the physical.Īll of the following can be found at most of the bigger chain hardware stores.ġ Sheet – 2 inch Insulation Foam Board C300ġ Sheet – 1 inch Insulation Foam Board C300ġ Sheet – 1/2 inch Insulation Foam Board C200 ![]()
